Galka

Galka, Russia, the mother colony, was founded on 12 August 1764. Over the next 3 years, 240 Lutherans from Germany settled in Galka. The 240 people consisted of 58 families made up of 124 male and 116 female settlers. Galka is located on the ‘Bergseite’ (hilly side) or west bank of the Volga River, south-southwest of Saratov. Maps in the Resources section of this web site will show you where this region is located.
